WHAT a joy to read the letter from Mr Jackson proclaiming the virtues in the lack of traffic in the Cathedral Close due to the closure of the High Street Gate and Mrs Austin’s enjoyment of sitting in the now quiet, peaceful and lovely looking Market Place.
Even some of the market traders are complimentary about it.
I had the good fortune to cycle through the High Street Gate a few Saturdays ago and marvelled at the traffic-free route with happy pedestrians milling about.
Of course, there could be some improvements, such as placing a bollard in the middle to prevent the bunching of pedestrians through one gate, but let’s just hope that scheme is supported and continues in due course as it really is a vast improvement on the car-orientated status quo. Well done Salisbury Cathedral.
