WHAT a wonderful weekend in Salisbury City Centre.

There was the stunning Craft and Heritage Fayre in the Cathedral Close on Saturday and Sunday and the excellent farmers’ market on Sunday.

The weather was perfect and Salisbury Centre was full of tourists and local people.

Some of those visiting tourists may well have decided to go for a picturesque walk alongside the River Avon but after the beauty of the Cathedral Close and Market Square they would have been very disappointed in what they saw.

The river walk from the city, and especially from the underpass and along by the back entrance to Waitrose and up to the Studio, is a disgusting mess.

There are broken benches and benches overgrown with weeds, grass not cut, piles of debris left by the tree surgeons and the side of the river is so overgrown it is impossible to see the river water and wildlife.

I wonder whether our local councillors ever go walking round their city and who ultimately checks up on work done by contractors.

The River Avon walk should be a popular attraction for local people and tourists.

Let's please restore this walk to its original beauty and make it one of the stunning features of the City of Salisbury.
