Well done to Mrs Cave-Smith for highlighting the scandal of charging our nurses to park their cars while they work 14 hour shifts (Journal Postbag - Sept 11). Surely, if it's absolutely necessary to charge them for parking, it should be ensured that there are enough spaces made available to prevent them picking up parking fines from greedy 'parking police'.
Two immediate questions come to my mind. First, on the occasions I have visited, it seems apparent that the main public car park, accessed through Entrance B, has plenty of empty spaces. Could this not be used as an overflow for staff?
Secondly: Do senior management and the board of governors pay for their parking? Or do they have reserved spaces or car park passes? If so, I'm sure we would all like to know why.
