The matter of the A303 and Countess Roundabout has always been a problem.
This Sunday it became a critical and dangerous one, when two cars collided into each other and then burst into flames. At Countess Roundabout the eastbound lanes were simply cut off.
There were no signs or alternative routes, just one saying closed.
For some time that roundabout has been found to be totally unsatisfactory by the residents, if not to say dangerous at many times of day.
On Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays the lights change two or three times as you queue to go north.
Asking for yellow hatch lines on the junctions of Countess Roundabout is like asking for the Holy Grail!
Visitors leave the A303 and drive through Bulford, Durrington and Larkhill Camp instead.
It is now costlier to holiday in the West Country due to the extra fuel used while waiting in traffic jams – not to mention the pollution.
So just who is stopping a full inquiry into this total mess and improve it once and for all?
No more half-hearted jobs please.
