WILTSHIRE Council should not be expected to continue to fund the transport costs for those choosing to attend selective grammar schools where these are not their nearest school.
This would be fully consistent with the funding policy towards those families who have made a similar choice and whose children are attending non selective schools which are not their local school.
No financial support is made available to these families for their transport costs. The proposals suggested by Wiltshire Council therefore seem reasonable in the circumstances. Locally we would then have an equitable position for all children and schools.
At a personal level, I fully support that there should be additional support for those from low income families who wish to send their children to any alternative school in the Salisbury area.
