I READ with interest the letter from Councillor Richard Clewer and want to reply to a couple of points he made.
First, he says that he and the council do not know what young people want.
Yet this is after the comprehensive consultation the council conducted at the beginning of the year that was intended to shape the changes in the way they are offering youth services.
Maybe the consultation was just a facade to add credibility to decisions already taken; or as several young people said at the open meeting held in Trowbridge on May 15: “You are not listening to us!” I think it perverse for anyone in the council to claim they don’t know what young people want after their own consultation process.
Secondly I do not believe he is being fair to other councillors when he suggests that they also don’t know what young people want.
There are councillors who, over many years, have regularly visited youth centres and activities and have sought to champion their cause. We all ought to respect their commitment.
