SOME drivers DO abuse disabled parking.

Karen Muir (Postbag, November 13) falls into the trap of attacking those who are offended by blatant misuse of Blue Badges and try to raise awareness, by telling us that, “not all drivers abuse disabled parking”.

We are well aware of that but she must also be aware that there is well known black market in the badges and abuse is widespread.

The criteria for the issue of badges is not set in stone and those approving applications may not always take enough responsibility for their actions. Similarly, those who approve other social benefits often appear to take the line of least resistance with the result that we have an underclass who, in many cases, have never worked in their life and intend to maintain that career for as long as we allow them to continue.

I also suspect that Mrs Muir may be in breach of the law if she uses her daughter’s badge if she herself is not actually in the car.

The “collection of things she may need” doesn’t sound to be a valid use of a Blue Badge, even in an emergency, and may give onlookers cause to assume misuse even if not intended.

Has she considered that the more that Blue Badges are misused, the more it will be to the detriment of genuine claimants?
