ON behalf of the Salisbury branch of the Royal British Legion, I would like to thank the city council and the people of Salisbury and south Wiltshire who attended both the parades on Remembrance Sunday and the short service at the war memorial on November 22.

The parade on the Sunday seemed to be bigger than ever and it was good to see 32 Regiment Royal Artillery and the Royal Wessex Yeomanry soldiers on parade. Also all the cadet services and young people who were with us.

A big thank you to the RBL band which led the parade and all the standard bearers who were there.

The short service on November 11 was well-attended and I thank them all very much for turning out in such unsettled weather.

Also thank you to the Rev David Lineker for performing the short service.

The non-attendance of a bugler was entirely my fault as I forgot to remind the RBL band we needed him, so I’m very sorry about that.

Thank you also to Tony Markham who, as always, controlled the parades very well.

Thank you all.

Bob Giddings,

President Salisbury Branch of the RBL
