ON Saturday, November 29, the Salisbury and District Trades Union Council celebrated 100 years of existence.

To mark the celebration, various unions joined together to march though Salisbury City centre. The local rhythm band Casa de Samba led the march and brought to the attention of business and shoppers the celebration.

The waves, cheers and support from everyone who lined the streets were greatly appreciated.

I would like to thank the Wiltshire Council and the Wiltshire Police for their help and co-operation with the march, which went smoothly and peacefully.

I would also like to thank The Dust Hole for baking the centenary cake, Fisherton Working Men's Club for hosting the after-march party, Claire and Gemma for the catering and Anthony von Roritz for capturing it all on camera.

Inspiring speeches by Clare Moody, South West MEP, Pete Pinkney (RMT), Simon Weller (ASLEF), Nigel Costley TUC and Rosie MacGregor South West TUC captivated and entertained everybody that attended and joined in the celebration.
