I STAND looking on with awe at our ‘new’ Guildhall Square.
What history has been played out here? Today it’s the Battle of the Rubbish Bins, charmingly placed in a prime position.
Their odoriferous contents spill out around them. They are even ignored by hungry pigeons.
Then there are the toilets, designed as a homage to a First World War bunker. Brilliant.
I admire the green mould creeping up the sides. The stone used for the square lovingly holds on to oil from vehicles and gum. Oh yes, there’s ice too on a cold day.
Why wasn’t this delightful area utilised over Christmas? The great echoing space could have been used by groups of singers, jugglers, entertainers – no, not a sausage.
Imagine the images of Salisbury tourists take back on their phones.
