I have just, yet again, put a plastic yoghurt pot (which I have carefully washed as I do not like the thought of any remaining contents adding to the stench of rubbish which is collected fortnightly) into the container which will be sent to landfill.

As I look at what else we can achieve, for instance landing equipment on a comet, why do we not value and take care of the resources that we have here on Earth.

I wonder at Wiltshire Council's policy which limits the recycling of plastic to bottles and apparently does not consider the consignment of the innumerable plastic containers, including bags, to landfill to be wasteful both of resources and of valuable land.

Plastic containers in landfill occupy a great deal of space and deteriorate very slowly.

The cost of landfill is I understand a big item in the council's budget, especially so given the annual EU landfill fines.

Methods of recycling most of the plastic used for containing and packing have been developed and are used by other local authorities.

Plastic bags can also be recycled and yet at our local recycling centre, we are told that plastic bags are sent to landfill.

What are the reasons for not adopting the recycling of all plastic in Wiltshire?
