LAST week’s general election result was a rejection of national coalition politics and a massive endorsement of the Conservatives here in the constituency of Salisbury.

I will repeat my congratulations to John Glen here for his successful campaign, as I had at the moment of results being declared at City Hall last week.

Now, as we disregard the warnings of an SNP-Labour government in the making, we can look towards delivery of the Conservative promise of an £8bn increase in our NHS annual budget and the promise of housing association tenants able to buy their properties, discounted by the taxpayer. I also look forward to the Conservative promise of raising personal income tax allowance to £12,500.

This will mean the 6,700 of workers in Salisbury’s constituency taken out of paying tax altogether by the Liberal Democrats manifesto pledge of 2010 will increase by another 1,000 workers.

We also look forward to our new MP and his party following the leadership shown by the Liberal Democrats protecting British jobs and British security and campaigning for a strong UK in the heart of a strong EU in the upcoming EU referendum.
