AT an open forum council meeting at the Bowman Centre in Amesbury on May 12 I asked what progress had been made on plans for the new heritage centre/museum in Amesbury.

The reply was unsatisfactory, revealing that practically nothing has been done over the past two years.

It may surprise some people to know that a group of volunteers has been running a heritage centre at the Melor Hall in Amesbury for a couple of years in eager anticipation of a new centre being planned and erected in the future.

Amesbury has lost Stonehenge to English Heritage and the Amesbury Archer to Salisbury, which begs the question — are we about to lose one of the few opportunities of bringing visitors to the town with a new museum /heritage centre ?

Amesbury has been firmly put on the map with the recent archaeological finds making the town the oldest settlement in England from which tremendous benefit can be derived to revitalise the community.

It is imperative action is taken now and I ask that Amesbury residents to speak to their local councillor and hopefully such pressure upon the council will result in some action.
