MARTIN Urmson (Journal Opinion, June 4) is entitled to his opinion of Elizabeth Frink’s Walking Madonna, but I see her differently.
The cathedral was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and still is St Mary’s Cathedral.
She represents the spirit of the cathedral striding towards the city and out into the world. She looks solemn, because the world has many problems, but resolute in her wish to face them. It is unusual to see Mary depicted as moving, so this is a very special statue.
