SO councillor Jose Green thinks we may need a new carrot or a stick to encourage us to recycle more.

Here in Salisbury our favourite site for recycling at Churchfields allows South Wiltshire residents to all participate and sort the waste into many different parts, including items like electrical and bulky items as well as rubble and garden waste.

We can bag up waste that can be used for energy, bring in used oil, batteries, light bulbs, clothing, books, the list is endless.

The centre is used daily and has extended opening hours to allow us all to do our part, whether we work or are at home, giving those of us with transport access at times that fit in with other activities or journeys.

So please Jose, where is the positive message we need, to reinforce good practice when Wiltshire Council — where everybody matters — decides that the Salisbury Household Recycling Centre shall be closed for two whole days a week, and only serve us during the middle part of the day? On top of charging some of us to use our green bins for garden waste?

The roadsides of South Wiltshire will not be wide enough to take all the waste that cannot be dropped off at the usual sites because they are closed, and the amount of recycling in this household alone will drop significantly, and my black bin may overflow at last.
