MR Urmson (From the Art, June 25) has been rather ungenerous with regard to the “barons” dotted around the city as part of the Magna Carta celebrations. Walking through town, it is a joy to see people, both locals and tourists, smiling at the chubby men with their beautiful decorations. There is nothing wrong with “comical”

and I believe there was a high degree of comedy during the Magna Carta pageant involving the people of Salisbury. The Barons are far more fun than a dried-up piece of parchment in the Chapter House.
