HIGH-flying housing! I am appalled at the Salisbury Parish Council planning committee for an ignorant and ill informed response to a blatantly selfserving planning application by Old Sarum Airfield Limited.

The important issues were omitted from the Journal article.

For example, the prime fact that this is a gross and unnecessary overdevelopment in an important conservation area.

Old Sarum Airfield is a unique historic site for military aviation that goes back to the First World War and this development will destroy it forever.

The fact that this is a development that is supposed to provide funds to save the airfield but is doing nothing less than providing an enormous profit for the leaseholder of the land. The fact that this proposal contravenes many of the core policies of Wiltshire Council.

I am staggered that these facts are ignored.

There are over 50 online responses to the consultation on this planning application and all of them are objections.

The majority come from residents outside of the parish affected and are from individuals interested in preserving our heritage.

How is it that Salisbury parish councillors, tasked with the responsibility of caring for one of the most important heritage cities in England, are responding with such arrogant disregard for the protection of Old Sarum Airfield?
