I FIND the article entitled ‘Proposed Amendments’ by Anne Perks (Rural Focus, July 16) extremely biased. The wording suggests that the amendments of the hunting act would ‘make it legal to manage foxes and some other wild mammals using packs of hounds’.
It would in other words have made fox hunting legal.
Banned since 2004, this blood sport had been promised a repeal under a free vote.
Hunting with dogs, which is detested by 80 per cent of the public, should not only remain banned but the laws should also be strengthened so that the many who openly flout the rules are brought to justice.
When it looked as though these amendments might be defeated, the government postponed the vote.
Hopefully if the vote is held again democracy will prevail and this blood sport stopped forever.
But maybe I’m biased.
