WHILST not wishing to be a ‘nimby’, I do think other considerations to the use of the bunker should be sought.

Those who know the Harnham Slope Woodland Area, and the excellent work carried out over the past years have now recently seen placed public information boards. These have been sponsored by the WC and the SCC and give details of the wooded area and the habitat. This includes a mixture of wildlifebadgers, squirrels, pipstrellebats, foxes and butterflies. The bird life listed are sparrow hawks, blackcap, chiffchaff, nuthatch, blue tit, great tit, woodpecker, tawny owl, kestrel and buzzards!

The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust have helped with maintenance in recent years and park adjacent to the eastern end where the bunker is situated.

The storage facilities could be a possible Salisbury venue for the WWT and the annual rent from the telephone mast would help with running costs.

Also the area board have designated possible funding from a community S106 bank, and this towards a recording studio and training centre for young musicians, and this application for the bunker is the sole tender.

If any local group would wish to visit the bunker please contact the city council, time is now a factor, but do have constructive ideas.

A planning application will soon be sought and could include extra lighting and a CCTV camera, how will the wildlife react? Who knows?

For those who do not know the area, park in Old Blandford Road and enjoy the walk, great views from the top!
