What sort of City do we live in?

I have lived with pride in our great city of Salisbury all my life and for the first time I am not sure that we are living in a safe society.

Let’s review our policing.

We have a population of approximately 42,000 people, but we have no proper police station. When the Wilton road station closed we were promised we would at least have some detention cells provided (cancelled).

We are promised a new CCTV system but don’t seem to have anybody trained to use it.

Wiltshire Police has the lowest number of officers per member of the public when compared to any other force in the UK.

On a recent Thursday evening at approximately midnight I drove around the town and not one policeman was found. What a wonderful time it must be for drink drivers.

Refuse collection is another scandal. Without reference to the public, the collection of waste has been moved from weekly to fortnightly and now we can’t even go to the city dump on Thursdays and Fridays and have to queue to use it on the reduced times during the rest of the week.

Drive around the dual carriageways through the town and you will find large amount of weeds growing on the verges.

No amount of flowers on railings and roundabouts will make it look any better. Cross the Avon River bridge on Butts Road and you can see a primitive repair made to the railings. This has now been in place for nearly two years since a tree fell on it.What will our council’s reply be to these scandals? — could be interesting reading.
