I wish to apologise to the unnamed spokesperson from Wiltshire Council who advised users of recycling centres to “ensure they are familiar with new arrangements before setting off ” (SJ, July 30, page 17).

I apologise that the citizens of Salisbury and South Wiltshire are so dim that they have not been able to understand the “new arrangements”. In our dim-wittedness we had simply assumed that our services are being cut and the tips are being shut on certain days. Is it something more sophisticated that? Might I also take this opportunity to ask for clarification from Wiltshire Council? As a dim person, please can someone at the council explain to me what the phrase “recycle for Wiltshire”

actually means or is it just another slogan invented in the department “where everybody mutters”?
