THIS weekend residents of Harnham received the latest PR leaflet from the Longford Estate about their proposal to build on the Britford Lane meadows.

The leaflet contains a number of “key facts”and statements which seek to support their proposal but are clearly wrong.

  •  They state that the minimum number of additional houses to be found by 2026 is 705 however the council are looking for 625 new homes.
  • They state that only 132 houses were available For Sale in Salisbury via Rightmove in mid October; a search today reveals 241 within a one mile radius and almost 300 within three miles.
  • They claim there would only be a two to three per cent increase in traffic as a result of the development however their highway consultants conducted a traffic survey on Newbridge Road during the week of halfterm minimising the number of vehicles being recorded as a result. 100 homes is likely to give rise to 200 new cars entering the road network at this location; although they claim that they will only be 50 extra cars; what planet do they live on!
  •  They claim the site does not flood however anybody who has been in Salisbury in the last three years will know these fields were inundated in 2014 and the environment agency's flood maps on which they are relying on hopelessly out of date.
  •  They claim the site is being promoted by the council where as the council are simply inviting landowners to put their land forward to be considered.
  • They claim a high quality development with pretty pictures but we all know what developers really want to build and the landowners will have no control once they sell the site.
  • They even claim the site is 10 minute's walk to the Market Square when it's a mile away and actually a 20 minute walk.

There is reply slip with a Yes/No box and minimal space to add comment; we urge all those with views to make sure they reply; no response will be spun as support!

It’s important that the public attend the exhibition on November 21 and 23 at the Guildhall to make their views very plainly felt. We know there is huge opposition to this proposal amongst the people of Salisbury.
