I HAD to check the date to make sure it wasn’t April 1. The article I was reading in The Journal was about shared space for cars and pedestrians on Blue Boar Row. Was this thought of after an evening of drinking at a local hostelry?

A Wiltshire Council officer in human form, (sorry I didn’t know they existed) proclaimed a shared space creates a sense of uncertainty in car drivers.

Well that sounds great, is the uncertainty supposed to make the pedestrian feel confident to proceed and get flattened.

To some drivers it could be an extension of a game they have just been playing on their X box called “Get the pedestrian!”

Is he not aware that Blue Boar Row is now basically a bus station and that you cannot compare areas of London to Salisbury, as in London cars can only go at a snail’s pace anyway, as it is so crowded.

And where on earth did he get the 15 per cent figure for people pressing the crossing button, did he go early on a Sunday morning to validate a low figure, so he could suggest removing the crossing?

As for one of the Salisbury councillor’s responses, the money is there from the transport budget to be used on a scheme, if we don’t we will lose it. Maybe it would be a good idea to consult the people of Salisbury as to where to spend the money.

I know there are plenty of sensible suggestions on what the transport budget should be spent on. Please send these to your local councillor. You never know they might actually listen to the people they represent.
