ALBERT Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
The Spanish philosopher George Santayana made the comment: ‘Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.’ A few years ago, Shaftesbury decided to make the High Street a shared space. Almost immediately the zebra crossing was removed. Nothing else appeared to change, least of all driver behaviour.
Existing shared spaces in Salisbury are car parks, especially the Central Car Park, which has a reduced speed limit, which is blatantly ignored.
Making Blue Boar Row (or anywhere else) a shared space will do nothing for motorists or pedestrians.
