I AM writing as a member of the team at The Burnbake Trust in Wilton, with regards to an issue which is occupying the time of our volunteers and preventing them from serving the requirements of the needy in the community as quickly as we would like.

I refer to the growing problems of “fly-tipping”.

Broken white goods, soiled furniture and clothing and sometimes, even rotting food, often greet our staff in the morning.

I should emphasise that we welcome donations that are in a usable condition. In fact, we would not exist but for the generosity of the kind donors, many of whom make contributions of a high quality.

By giving generously, our supporters extend the lifetime of beautiful glass, china, clothing and furniture. So we can help local people and in turn, the planet too.

In essence, I am asking the whole community to continue giving generously, whilst at the same time, consigning damaged and decayed goods to the council collections.

This simple awareness would help us to serve all interests best.
