I HAVE recently had a bill on my car for over £300, this was for damage to the suspension caused solely by the appalling state of the roads.
My garage is seeing more and more damage to cars because the roads are not being maintained to a safe standard for the motorist.
I have written to Wiltshire Council complaining and have as yet not received a reply. Motorists pay a hefty amount in car tax and yet the roads are not being repaired, I was only doing 5mph when my car went ‘bang’ with smoke coming out. Had I been going faster, I dread to think what might have happened to myself and others. This damage was not ‘wear and tear’ as my car is only six years old and I have only done 28,000 miles.
I have informed the council that if any more damage is caused due to the roads I will be looking for full reimbursement.
Filling in pot holes is not the answer – they go again very quickly as can be seen everywhere.
Since MPs have just had a raise, and since Baroness Scott gets £300 a day for ‘sitting’ in the House of Lords together with a substantial council salary, perhaps they should put all that money into a fund for motorists that can be used to pay for their car repairs caused by the disgusting state of the roads.
I urge anyone else who gets a repair bill on their car that is caused by the abysmal state of the roads, to report it. Maybe then something will be done.
