SAVE the Meadows campaigners would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the rush hour traffic jams around the south side of the city last Tuesday morning (April 19).

In order to test the impact a proposed development of 100 houses on fields at Britford Lane would have on traffic, 18 of our supporters took to the roads between 8-8.30am - driving their cars from Britford Lane around the Harnham gyratory and New Bridge Road.

As you can see from the pictures, this small amount of extra traffic filtering out onto New Bridge Road at a busy time of day had a huge impact, causing tailbacks to Wiltshire College, Southampton Road, Churchill Way, Downton Road, Coombe Road, Netherhampton Road and beyond.

If the proposed development goes ahead, there will be far more than 18 cars joining New Bridge Road each morning and the congestion is likely to be far worse than this.
