I REGULARLY drive over Pepperbox Hill and I am concerned about the motives of the police speed camera van which can, occasionally, be found in the layby, just over the first brow of the hill, as one drives out of Salisbury.

We are all aware there have been some serious accidents at Pepperbox over the years, no doubt many resulting from excess speed. However, my concern is, if the police were truly concerned about speeding at Pepperbox (instead of it purely being a money-making exercise) surely a fixed speed camera would prove to be a more viable solution.

At least then, the |majority of drivers would be aware of the speed camera and know not to drive in excess of the speed limit.

Instead, presently, we sometimes have a chap “hiding” in a little white van happily “picking off” people who do drive in excess of the speed limit, and thus making a bit of money at the same time.

It is obvious a fixed speed camera would be more beneficial for road safety. Plus, it would enable the chap sat in the little white van to spend more of his time catching real criminals.

Finally, I cannot see why overtaking is permitted while driving down from Pepperbox towards Salisbury. On many occasions, I witness cars overtaking and then having to pull in quickly to avoid cars driving up the hill from Salisbury.

Would the authorities responsible please review this matter and get it sorted quickly before we hear of another “major incident at Pepperbox Hill.”
