It's been a comedy of errors from the traffic planners

FOR once Salisbury’s traffic planners, best known for their tedious routine of appallingly bad jokes, have actually come up with a very good one.

The recent decision to divert traffic from Castle Street the wrong way along Chipper Lane rather than the logical and obvious route along Scots Lane was truly inspired.

Not only did it allow for a completely unnecessary suite of temporary three-way lights but also, by giving no advance notice to drivers turning into Chipper Lane from Endless Street that two-way traffic applied, utter chaos was guaranteed.

Entirely predictable, and priceless! I have never before seen Chipper Lane gridlocked on a Sunday morning – it was pure slapstick, and took real comic genius.

Hats off to you, gentlemen, keep it up, and let’s hope that in future the traffic tragedy we have all come to know and loathe will give way to a comedy of errors.
