WHAT a thrill to have had our own Cultural Olympiad here in Salisbury.

No, you haven’t missed any formal Olympic Games events, but our own home grown talent from Salisbury Dance Studios.

“On your marks, get set…” was an inspiring event showcasing students of every age, shape and size. With an Olympic theme, the show was an inspiration both for young and old in the audience.

My five-year-old and her friend were glued to their seats enjoying the amazing costumes, contemporary music and choreography.

To watch the show was almost overwhelming for any parent, whether they had children in it or not. Just to see what can be done with one or two hours a week of ballet, jazz, tap or modern dancing for our young people was superb.

The confidence those students needed to perform to a sell-out audience at the City Hall, no amount of formal education could have given. The amount of work which had gone into the costumes, choreography, music and lighting was unbelievable for an amateur show.

The two young, athletic men in the show were confirmation that dance is for everyone and I thought, at points, I was watching professional dancers in a West End show. So let’s fly the flag for Salisbury and our Olympic youth - well done Miss Katy, Miss Kim and all the team, you definitely deserve an Olympic gold medal.
