Machine breakdown led to uplift in trade
12:52pm Wednesday 27th June 2012 in Salisbury Letters
Regarding Richard Clewer’s letter on parking (Journal, June 21). Our store is in The Cross Keys Chequer. We experienced a massive uplift in trade while the parking meters were down.
Customers stated that they didn’t have to worry about parking fines and trade was at least doubled.
We appreciate that money needs to be found.
As business people the city's retailers understand financial pressures all too well.
However there has to be a long-term strategy too, and Wiltshire Council needs to work with the business people in the city. I suggest that we immediately extend parking time in the central car park with no uplift in charge and see how that affects trade. That can be done really cheaply with a sticker on the machines.
