A mum of three from Salisbury is preparing for a season of Park Yoga sessions in Queen Elizabeth Gardens this summer.

Emily Burrough, 49, has been teaching yoga in Salisbury since 2016, having previously worked with her husband for their business “Salisbury Signs.”

Her company, “Emily B Yoga” is based at Edwardian Lodge Guest House on Castle Road – a guest house with a yoga studio.

Following a popular run last summer, Emily will be running free community yoga sessions starting from Sunday, May 5 until Sunday, September 15.

Park Yoga has taken place in Salisbury since 2020, but Emily took over from the previous organiser last year.

This year, the Park Yoga charity will run across 48 locations – an increase from last year’s 32.

On their website, the charity states: “Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of the public by providing free yoga sessions in an open space for the public benefit. The beneficiaries will extend to those living throughout the UK regardless of age, disability, gender or ethnicity.

The sessions are suitable for all experience levels - and there’s no need to book a place.

Emily told the Journal: “Just turn up, bring a mat or towel or picnic blanket – and water. You don’t have to give your name or any details.

You can come and go – some people are late or leave early. It’s so informal, people bring kids, grandparents, well behaved dogs on leads. A lot of people come on their own.”

On a sunny day in May last year, more than 150 people attended.

Emily added: “There are fresh faces every time. People can move and breathe together, with a sense of community.

“More and more people come each week, so I think it is a real community feel - without even having to talk to anyone.”

She described the park as the best place, as there is “everyone and no-one”.

Emily also organises international yoga retreats. This summer, she will be taking two groups to Barcelona, and next March, she plans to take 24 people to Sri Lanka.
