Salisbury Soroptimists is asking for donations of ‘gently used’ bras that can be sent to women in various African countries.
For the fifth year running, bras will be taken to “Afreebra” in south-west London, an initiative which partners with organisations working in African countries to distribute bras to women who would otherwise not be able to afford them.

Last year, 3,736 bras were collected between May and June.
A spokesperson for Salisbury Soroptimists said: “Sometimes the bras are used as an incentive to women, for example to bring their children to a literacy project.
"Women living in rural areas often have very little access to cash and are last on the family spending priorities. Your bra could help improve a women's self-esteem!”
Unlike other collections, bras are reused as bras. Salisbury Soroptimists ask that if a bra is beyond reuse, to donate it to another collector.
Collection points will operate until the end of June. They are located at Five Rivers Leisure Centre, and 60 Endless Street.

Salisbury Soroptimists added: “If you are able to collect from friends and neighbours or an organisation, we may be able to arrange to pick them up from you.
