Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for Consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Hook Common and Bartley Heath. The proposed works are intended to be permanent and consist of approximately 4681 metres stock proof fencing, 24 bridle gates, 4 five-bar field gates, 1 cattle grid, 7 stiles and 2 corrals. They will contain approximately 73 hectares of common land in 2 units either side of the A287. These will be located as follows:
i) On the western side of Hook Road from Station Road south to the A287.
Includes 1 field gate and 4 bridle gates.
ii) On the northern side of the A287 from Hook Road west to 66m east of the A30. Includes 1 field gate, 4 bridle gates, and 1 cattle grid, set back from the A287 by 12m. 12m post and rail fencing each side of the track to the playing fields. The field gate across the cattle grid will be locked when not in use.
iii) From approx 62m east of the junction with the A30 following the rear of Yew Tree Cottages and The Hogget Pub to the A30, approx 90m north of the A287.
iv) On the south eastern side of the A30, from approx 90m north of A287 to the railway line. Includes 1 bridle gate. On the southern side of the track to Bulls Bushes including 4 bridle gates.
v) Outside the south western edge of the King George V Playing fields, including 1 bridle gate. Outside the south eastern edge of the playing fields, including 2 stiles and 1 bridle gate. Outside the north edge of the playing fields from the eastern corner of the playing fields to the point at which the boundary meets the tennis courts. Outside the north west corner of the playing field between the tennis courts and the rear of the pavilion, including 1 bridle gate.
vi) Along the western edge of Heather Row from the entrance of Heather Row Farmhouse to 48m to the south, where it meets 1 bridle gate with cattle grid (not part of this application) and bypass gate on Heather Row between Heather Row Farmhouse and Heather Row Cottage.
vii) Along the eastern side of Heather Row south from the A30. 1 bridle gate with cattle grid (not part of this application) and bypass gate approximately 30m south of the A30 on Heather Row. From the western edge of this cattle grid west to the existing fenceline.
viii) Along the southern side of the A30 from the corner of Heather Row north east to the A287, includes 1 bridle gate.
ix) Along the southern side of the A287 east from the A30 to Holly Bush Lane. Along the entire western side of Holly Bush Lane including 1 bridle gate.
Along the eastern side of Hollybush Lane between Oaklands and Hollybush View, including 2 bridle gates
x) Along the south and east side of Oaklands, including 5 stiles.
xi) Along the south side of the A287 and the link road to the HCC depot from the eastern edge of Oaklands to the M3 motorway fence. Includes 1 field gate and 3 bridle gates.
xii) 2 corrals at map reference SU 716 534 or thereabouts and map reference SU 713 532 or thereabouts. A copy of the application form and map showing the proposed works can be inspected at the Hook Parish Council office, Hook Community Centre, Ravenscroft, Hook, RG27 9NN between the hours of 9am and 12 noon weekdays (not public holidays) A copy is also available at www.hwt.org.uk/pages/hook-common-fencing and at HIWWT office (address below) between the hours of 9am and 5pm until the 12 day of August 2011.
