Mission and Pastoral Measure 2011 Closed Church of Bemerton St John
A Pastoral Church Buildings Scheme dated the 11th day of December 2014 authorised the Salisbury Diocesan Board of Finance to lease the closed church building of Bemerton St John and part of the churchyard for educational, cultural, social and community purposes and for any ecclesiastical purposes of the parish of Bemerton.
There are burials in the part of the churchyard to be leased. The Secretary of State has made an Order lifting the requirement to remove human remains buried in that part except for some where exhumation is required. These will be dealt with as directed by the Secretary of State and the Bishop of Salisbury. All other human remains will remain undisturbed. The Bishop has directed that certain of the tombstones, monuments and memorials within the property shall be re-erected with the remains of those they commemorate in the part of the churchyard remaining in use.
You can obtain details of these arrangements and the rights of personal representatives or relatives of deceased persons interred in these graves or commemorated by the tombstones, monuments or memorials from the Diocese (contact details below) or inspect them at St Andrews Church, Bemerton or St Michael & All Angels, Bemerton Heath until Monday 28 September 2015.
If you wish to exercise such rights you must give notice to the Diocese at the address below
by Monday 28 September 2015.
