An independent jewellery shop in St Thomas Square will close next week.

Salisbury's Amali Jules will close its doors for the last time on Saturday, June 26 after seven years in the city.

The shop states that its reasons for closing include rent increases.

The Australian-born business will now have just one shop remaining in the UK, in Padstow in Cornwall.

Business owner Lisa Davenport said: "Covid has affected everyone, but it's not the main reason we're closing.

"When we had to close during the lockdowns, the government paid wages, but we still had to pay rent, insurance, pensions and National Insurance.

"The cost of us being closed is significant. We did try and negotiate with the rent increases but after losing staff it was very difficult to come back from. It has been quite difficult to find replacement staff.

"It is unfortunate. The shop has been lovely. We've had lovely customers and Salisbury's a lovely city."

Lisa says that she will continue with running the business in its Padstow branch.
