Two Salisbury independents have been forced to either shut temporarily or reduce their opening hours after staff members contracted Covid.

Tinga, the Mexican bar and restaurant on Salt Lane, and nole on the square on Market Square have both had staff members contract the virus.

Dave and Aimee Hancock, owners of Tinga, announced yesterday that it is "with sadness and frustration" that the restaurant will be closed until Thursday (July 1).

They said: "One of our team members has tested positive for Covid-19. Following guidelines and protocols, our team are now required to self isolate.

"Customer and staff safety is our number one priority. Those of you who have visited will know we are doing everything we can to ensure this is achieved."

They add that "thankfully" the staff member is not seriously ill.

The restaurant has had to call 400 people to cancel their bookings: "We really are trying to navigate through these tough times but it isn’t easy.

"Thank you for your continued support, understanding, and to everyone who has left a lovely review or enjoyed the food, drink and service, we are SO grateful."

Their second venue, the 1920s style bar and bed and breakfast Caboose, near the train station, stays open.

This weekend, Caboose will serve cocktails, canapé stands and Afternoon Tea, and slots for this can be booked on their website.

Nole on Market Square will be operating with reduced hours until Sunday, after two of their staff members contracted the virus, and five others were forced to isolate.

The pizza place will be open from 4pm until 9pm tomorrow and Saturday (June 26).

The branch announced on Instagram: "We'll be a little short staffed so bear with us whilst we're making your pizza.

"If you're aggy about waiting a little longer than normal, go to Pizza Express."

The business recently opened another branch, nole in the barn, on Minster Street, Wilton, which will open as normal.
