A Durrington salon that opened in the middle of the pandemic has won two regional awards.

B-Unique Beauty and Aesthetics on Bulford Road has been crowned Entrepreneur of the Year and Best New Businesses of the Year 2021.

The business was awarded gold trophies after winning the categories for the south east as part of the national British Hair and Beauty Awards.

Jamie-Lee Jones, 35, set up the salon in July last year "to provide support to the local community and help support others".

The salon is unique in that it provides low-cost childcare on an as-needed basis.

The Amesbury mum-of-three said it was her own experiences that gave her this idea.

She said: "I was a single mum and I was so limited - you can't get anything done as you have kids in tow, unless you sign up for a nursery.

"But with nurseries, you have to pay even if your children don't go, and many mums don't have that money. We give them that one stop, where they can use the creche once or as regularly as they need to."

The salon provides childcare for people whether they are staying on site for beauty treatments or anything else the salon offers, or leaving the site.

It is run by qualified, DBS-checked and first aid-trained childcare professionals, and can be booked by either telephone or messaging the business page.

The price, currently being updated, will be £2.50 per hour per child when a parent is on site, and £5 per hour per child off site.

As well as offering childcare and the usual range of health and beauty services, B-unique provides hypnotherapy, fitness classes, pamper packages and afternoon tea experiences.

Jamie-Lee added: "We mix with other businesses to provide unique experiences that no other salon does, so we're supporting as many people as possible.

"Especially in the Covid situation, many people struggle with mental health and it just gives them that support.

"To get people out the house with fitness classes and childcare gives them the opportunity to be themselves again."
