TESCO staff in Salisbury delivered some festive cheer to families in need this Christmas.
The Tesco Extra store on Southampton Road once again provided 51 fresh food hampers containing everything needed to make a starter, main and dessert for Christmas Day.
The hampers have been paid for, prepped and delivered by the Tesco team. The delivery team came in on their day off to drop of these special packages.
The store worked with Salisbury Foodbank to find families in need who could benefit from the special Christmas gift.
Store manager Shaun Sennett said that it has been a tough year for everyone and the Tesco store "loves to go and do as much as they can for the community".
"We wanted to give vulnerable families food at Christmas so they can enjoy a lovely Christmas dinner."
Staff helped prepare and pack the Christmas hampers ready for them to be handed out.
Some of the food parcels were collected from the store while 35 were delivered by the store's delivery drivers on Christmas Eve, who came in on their day off to support the initiative.
"It was fantastic of them to give up their time," added Shaun.
He also says it has been "incredible" to work "shoulder to shoulder" with Salisbury Foodbank to help vulnerable families and "give something back to the local community".
Last year, was the first time it had delivered festive food hampers, which Shaun says was an "absolute success" and is something the store hopes to do every year.
The Tesco store approached Salisbury Foodbank again this year about the hamper project and the charity worked with schools, GPs and others to identify those in need of a bit of extra support this Christmas.
Salisbury Foodbank manager Maria Stevenson said: "It’s wonderful that Tesco Extra and the communities team headed up by Gilbert are able to offer this additional support, it means more than the words can describe to these families and I’m sure there will be times today that the delivery drivers see families in tears."
