A YOUNG otter who was rescued after being found in a flower shop has been taken to an RSPCA centre for further care.

It found its way into Paloma Lily on West Street in Wilton on Thursday (March 3).

Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital, based in Newton Tony, was called as the animal had an injury to its face.

An update on the otter posted to the Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital Facebook page said: "We've had another otter in recently, this was a juvenile who had lost its way, in the middle of Wilton.

"It found refuge in Paloma Lily flower shop, it must of smelt a bit like 'home'. He/she was curled up under a bench and was easy to capture.

"On examination back at the hospital it was found to have a few facial injuries, which needed further treatment, it was very feisty so all we were able to do was flush out the wounds with out causing too much more stress.

"After a night with us, it was transported to RSPCA West Hatch for ongoing treatment to its face before its onward journey to the Otter Trust for rehabilitation."

The wildlife rescue charity also thanked everyone who responded to its appeal for trout.

Staff at the shop said the furry visitor was peeking out the windows, cleaning his bottom and taking a nap in the plant pots.

That wasn't the first otter to be spotted that week. Another was seen in Salisbury Cathedral on Tuesday of last week.

This video shows it roaming around the Cloisters.
