A brewery taproom has reopened after being closed for two years.

Dark Revolution, in Old Sarum Business Park, reopened for drink-in customers on Friday March 25.

The taproom had been closed for more than two years due to Covid restrictions.

The taproom opened in Salisbury for the first time in October 2018, but closed at the start of the pandemic.

While they still operated selling takeaway beers, in one and two litre containers to enjoy at home, the business has only just reopened for drink-in customers.

Greg Hughes, founder and owner of Dark Revolution, said: "It has been really nice to be back and see the regular customers returning.

"We wouldn't be here if customers hadn't been up buying their beer here during the last two years. In the first lockdown, we were wondering what to do as we had no customers, so we got some takeaway containers - plastic jerry cans - and started selling the beer by the litre.

"Every Friday, we would have a queue."

He said that the brewery decided to stay closed even after the lockdowns ended because of the safety risks associated with Covid: "We decided to stay closed because it is quite small in here and we didn't want to risk contracting Covid and having to shut down the whole brewery.

"We opened this spring as we were waiting until the situation was more stable and hopefully behind us."

As well as serving beer that is brewed on site in the brewery, the taproom offers street food most weekends from fairly local businesses - including Tandoori G, an Indian Street Food pop-up from Melksham, and Arty-Stan, a pizza vendor from Southampton.

Greg, 48, is from London and has lived in Salisbury for the last two decades. He runs Dark Revolution Brewery with wife Sarah.

He added that there are many ideas in the pipeline for the business now the taproom has reopened, including possible brewery tours, food and drink tasting nights, music nights, and other events.

He said: "We are just trying to walk before we run at the moment, but we want to be a community hub. We have a great space down here."

Having been in the industry for many years, Greg also wrote a book on home brewing - Home Brew Beer: A step-by-step guide to making your own beer - in 2013.

Now in its second edition, the book has been translated into four different languages and is in the top 50 in Amazon's Best Sellers in books on beer.

The taproom is currently open for drink-in on Fridays and Saturdays, from midday until 8pm - although there are plans to open more in the future.

It is also open for takeaway from Monday to Thursday, 10am to 5pm.
