Deichmann Shoes is planning to open a new shop in the city centre.

The shoe shop chain has applied to Wiltshire Council for alterations to 31-33 Old George Mall, which used to house Topshop.

According to planning application documents, Deichmann owns the site.

The application, submitted to Wiltshire Council (ref. PL/2022/02309), is for a new shop front and new signage for the site, which is currently a vacant retail unit.

The new signage will be the company's name in its typical green illuminated LED letters.

Salisbury Journal:

Plans for the front of the store

The documents say the company are to "undertake a fit out" of the premises.

If plans are approved, the company proposes that the store will offer six full-time and four part-time positions.

Originating in Germany, Deichmann has been running since 1913, employing around 42,000 people in 31 countries.

It is said to be Europe's largest shoe retailer.

Responding to the plans, a Deichmann spokesperson said: "Deichmann is constantly looking for new locations to add to our expanding store portfolio and we’d like the city of Salisbury to one day be part of it.

"We keep monitoring possibilities within Salisbury which has fantastic opportunities to offer."

The consultation deadline is next Friday (April 22). To view the planning application in full, click here.
