A CITY centre shop in a prime location is closing its doors in January after just over a year of trading.
The House of Tweed shop opened on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 33-37 New Canal, in The Old George Mall and was known for its specialist and quality products including clothes, bags, slippers, scarves, gloves, and capes in tweed patterns.

Assistant manager Jenny Stokes said: “We have known for about three weeks. We were a pop-up shop last year and were very fortunate to have lasted throughout this year.
“I think after a while the rent and rates have to go up. We are closing on Saturday, January 14 but if there is a possibility of finding other suitable premises in Salisbury, we may reopen in time, but in the meanwhile, we have to close.”
The House of Tweed employs five regular staff and two temporary staff members.
Jenny said: “This is a great spot and we have done really well. The shop catered to all sizes and people felt confident coming in. We were happy and friendly and helpful to everyone.
"I think people just liked the colourfulness of it and we had bright window displays. With electricity bills increasing and rent and rates, costs are horrendous.”
She added: “I think Salisbury benefitted greatly from the shop being here, we’ve had such great feedback and repeat customers. It’s really sad to let them down.”
