Wyndham Hall is celebrating its first anniversary under the ownership of Richard and Christine Glover, it’s future became uncertain when the Diocese of Salisbury chose to sell the venue in May 2021, claiming the hall had “struggled to break even.”

Despite these adversities, Richard and Christine chose to purchase the hall in late 2021 to keep it open as a centre for the Amesbury community.

Councillor Mark Verbinnen and his wife Rachel, who ran the hall before its closure by the diocese, have continued to run the hall on behalf of Richard and Christine following its rescue.

Christine said in January 2022: “Living near the hall we saw first-hand how many people in our community valued having a local hall for classes and functions.

“We are convinced that it is needed by the local community and that it can be commercially viable, whilst being reasonably priced for everyone to hire.

“It also provides a well-ventilated space with adequate room for people to meet, during these difficult times, and Covid government guidance will be ensured.”

One year on, Cllr Verbinnen and Rachel said the business has hosted numerous events.

Cllr Verbinnen and Rachel said in a statement: “Starting a new business is always hard, especially in the hospitality sector. With current energy bills and the pressures of the past year, we have still managed to invest in the hall, providing better facilities, making us one of the best-equipped venues for hire in the area.

“We’ve hosted weddings, birthday parties, fundraisers, weekly classes, meetings and much more. Working with a local business, Sims Hospitality, we have had a permanent bar at the hall, which has greatly added to the appeal of Wyndham Hall.”
