A new multi-use studio facility featuring yoga classes, sound baths and more is the newest establishment to join the family of businesses at The Maltings.

Rafiki Studios will hold a launch party at 12pm on Saturday, April 29 featuring live acoustic guitar music by Hamlet Peter, sound bath taster sessions and yoga taster sessions.

A sound bath does not involve any bath with water or bubbles.

Rafiki Studios founder Ilona Coryndon Burns said: “The only reason it’s called a sound bath is because the sound waves are bathing you, so there’s no bath involved.

"It’s literally in the studios, people will lie on yoga mats with blankets and cushions and relax and then I play all of my sound healing instruments and the people who are attending the sound bath are sort of listening to the music from the mat.”

The instruments Ilona uses during sound baths include a symphonic gong, crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, chimes and other percussion instruments.

Ilona will also move her yoga classes to the studio and offer the space for other healing and wellness teachers in the Salisbury area.

Ilona said she has wanted to open studios in the centre of Salisbury for years.

She said: “It’s been something I’ve been looking at for quite a long time, and I just waiting for the opportunity for the right space to come along in the centre of Salisbury and it’s also an opportunity for me to expand my sound healing as well as my teaching.

“It’s also really about offering a space for local teachers and workshop leaders to use, as well. So it’s not just about me.”
