THE owner of a longstanding Salisbury barbershop is planning to expand his business to a nearby town.

Chris Laflins, owner of Laflins The Barber, hopes to open a new shop at 15 North Street in Wilton on December 1.

The 39-year-old has built up the shop, at 42 Old George Mall, over the last 13 years to house a total of six barbers but felt it was "the right time" to expand.

Mr Laflin has been cutting hair since he was 16 years old, he told the Journal: "We've very busy here and we think Wilton needs a modern barbershop.

"We want to cover traditional gents all the way up to modern skin fades."

It would be quicker for customers living in St Peter's Place or Skew Bridge to travel for a haircut at the new Wilton shop, according to Mr Laflin.

The former Linard Stephen surveyors building has been empty for roughly six months and underwent a refurbishment which saw new flooring, lighting and barber chairs installed.

Current manager Aaron Hicks will relocate to Wilton to become manager of the new shop while Sean Hirang will take over the Salisbury shop.

Believing there's "a lot of scope" for a shop in Wilton, Mr Laflin added: "I’ve got a good feeling about it. I looked in other towns and it didn’t feel right but Wilton just felt right."
