Through purchasing its office water coolers from AquAid, Whites in Salisbury has funded the installation of a new water pump in the northeastern highlands of Zimbabwe.
The new pump in Manicaland is of a type known as an elephant pump, an inexpensive, simple pump based on a millennia-old Chinese design with few movable parts that won the St Andrews Medal for the Environment in 2005, at which time King Charles III complimented the project and said “it is hard to imagine a better cause than this”.
The new pump bears the name of Whites and has written upon it: “A gift from your friends Whites in Salisbury”.
