A café offering morning-to-night dining, drinks and live music has opened in Salisbury.
News Café opened on Monday, September 16 in the former Byron Burger unit on New Canal. The name is focused on the idea that the food is ‘fresh’ and the design is ‘modern’, inspired by a business in Florida.
The restaurant is characterised by bright colours and agriculture to give it a ‘homely’ feel, offering all day food, including breakfast, brunch, lunch, cocktails, with a speciality of smash burgers.
On Sunday, September 15, ahead of the official opening, the café handed out 500 free burgers to shoppers - which were gone in just an hour and a half.

Executive chef Stuart Lancaster said: “All the recipes are tried and tested, it’s all done with love and care”, he said, “it’s fresh – it’s not all premade. We’ve got free range eggs; all of our meats are cut from Smithfield butchers in London. We’re really into the food.”
Salisbury's branch is the second of a growing chain, after the first café opened in Plymouth just three weeks ago. The idea came from the idea of the News Café in Miami, Florida, where regulars are said to form ‘micro communities' with others they meet.
Head of marketing Mike Turner said: “What we’re looking to establish is that kind of micro community feel - whether that’s a Sunday brunch crowd, whether that’s people coming in on for live music, whether it’s people stopping after school with their kids.
“We’re absolutely committed to fostering that sense of community in Salisbury.”
The team are hoping to build up the number of events and gatherings they host, and are asking those with ideas to get in touch.
Mike said: “If you have a community and you’re looking for a place to hang out in public to meet, or if you’ve got an idea for a regular event and you’re looking for somewhere to host it then we’re looking to talk to you.”
Over the upcoming months, News Café will host events including quiz nights, regular live music showings and bingo.
Stuart added: “It’s fun – that’s our main objective. We love the town and it’s not serious in here, it’s a great space.”
Between 8pm – 11pm, cocktails are on a ‘two for £14.95’ offer, and on Tuesdays, between 5pm – 10pm, two draught beers can be purchased for £10. For opening times and more information, visit News Cafe's website here.
