She’s spent 35 years as a makeup artist, working with photographers including Lord Patrick Lichfield, Terry O’Neil and Lord Snowden and magazines such as Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle.
I did that for quite a few years”, she said, “and then became a manager for one of the stores of MAC cosmetics for two years. I had the opportunity to go to Dubai for a month and I thought it was very similar to Africa.”
After moving back to England, she made the decision in 2000 to return to Dubai, and bought a one way ticket.
Sarah added: “I arrived there with £500 and didn’t know anyone. I knew nothing for the first two weeks.”
She contacted magazines to say she had arrived and within weeks, she being picked up by some of the biggest brands, and working with Arab ladies to do their makeup.
Over the next 20 years, she got to know members of the Dubai royal family having done makeup for them.
She said: “It was amazing. They were so humble – I didn’t know they were royal up until I was at their gates. I made great friends with some of the royals, I was invited to most of the weddings.”
She came back to England to help with her son’s education.
“The fact that I was working so much it started getting in the way of my being a mother. I’m a mother first and foremost," she said.
Plans to work with the team at the Hair Extension Cave are in the works but she is also offering services in Salisbury, teaching people how to use makeup and offering wedding and party makeup services.
