FROM a best dressed window competition to the return of the nutcracker kings, Salisbury is gearing up for the Christmas season with lots of festive fun in and around the city centre.

Salisbury BID and its fellow businesses are once again transforming the high street into a winter wonderland, for residents and visitors alike to enjoy over the next few months.

The city’s Christmas calendar is to be accompanied by the BID’s activities, competitions and spectacles, reminding the public that Salisbury at Christmas is the place to be.

Firstly shoppers can look forward to the comeback of the nutcracker kings, which will be located in businesses across the city centre.

It will be up to Salisbury-goers to track these statues down, take a photo with one and share it online, to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

And in partnership with the Journal, Salisbury BID has launched the ‘Best Dressed Christmas Window’ competition.

With a variety of businesses getting involved, Christmas shoppers can enjoy an array of newly decorated window displays with a seasonal twist.

From November 15 it will be up to the public to vote for their favourite windows, so it’s important to scout the streets of Salisbury to view them all.

Accompanying Salisbury City Council’s Nativity-inspired Christmas tree trail, set to arrive in Salisbury on November 20, visitors will also soon be able to spot paper angels in business windows as a nod to the Christmas story.

Molly Cook of The Hair Extension Cave said the team is “excited” for the upcoming Christmas events, alongside the relocation of her salon next month.

“As a business owner in Salisbury it has been a tough time these last two years but we are finally starting to see the Christmas lights at the end of the tunnel,” she said.

“The Hair Extension Cave is excited about all the competitions and events the BID is doing for us this Christmas period, especially decorating the salon window for the best dressed window competition and seeing what wig will suit the Nutcracker best in our new city centre salon opposite the Poultry Cross, opening in December.”

The BID, along with Salisbury’s vast selection of independents, is also once again encouraging a message of ‘Shop Local’, by suggesting gifting those you love with a Salisbury Gift Card.

In November and December last year more than £14,000 was spent through these special vouchers, giving shoppers the chance to explore treats and treasures across the retail, food and drink, and hair and beauty scenes here in Salisbury.

Finally, and in conjunction with the BID, Experience Salisbury will be providing lots of Christmas tips and advice by showcasing the city’s finest, including the best places locally to source a Christmas jumper and the perfect recipes for a festive tipple.
